ARUNA HAR PRASAD began her career as a set decorator for the films “Sea Wolves” and “Gandhi”. In the Raj epic, “Far Pavilions”, she worked closely with the Director as a cultural advisor, and re-wrote two of the scenes set in India, the ‘sati’ and the Indian royal wedding. In 1988, she established her own company, KAS Movie Makers with Kalyan Mukherjee. As a director in KAS, she functions as a Line Producer and creative consultant on International films, features and commercials. Given a brief or storyboard, Aruna selects and sends the relevant visuals from her personal photo library. She hand picks the crew briefing the heads of department and planning the pre-production so that the Director has a range of choices for each department. The diverse influences and years of experience in films has helped her develop her own brand of visual story telling as a documentary film maker. ”The Tribes of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands”, remains till date an exclusive visual narrative on the endangered primitive tribes of the Andamans archipelago (See George Weber’s website:- andaman.org). Her other documentary films have been awarded and showcased at various film festivals. (For further information visit ‘KAS films’) Aruna was nominated by the Government of India as Member of the Jury for the feature film section of the 49th National Film Awards, as well as for the Indian Panorama 2002. | ![]() |
