KALYAN MUKHERJEE began his career as a journalist, reporting for the Hindustan Times & Business Standard.

In 1988, he set up KAS Movie Makers, with Aruna Har Prasad. Kalyan Mukherjee has been a film producer and media strategist for 18 years. He has produced documentaries, feature films and ad commercials with the best International film companies. Under the umbrella of his company KAS Movie Makers along with his partner Aruna Har Prasad he has produced a range of sociological documentaries on Indian subjects like Eunuchs-India’s Third Gender, The Tribes of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and The Little teachers of Thondamuthur. All 13 documentaries produced by them have been thoroughly researched, scripted and shot across India in locations as varied as Ladakh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Varanasi, Bengal, Mumbai, Assam and Kerala.

His first book “Bhojpur – Naxalism in the Plains of Bihar” was published in 1980, followed by “Malkhan, the Bandit King” (1985). His published novels in Bengali are “Mritomacher Kahini” (2005), “Adhir Shomer Joubon Kotha” (2007) and “Ujjan Ganga” (2006) a collection of short stories.
