Dharma Dollies explores stress and anxiety amongst this generation which drives them to all kinds of quick fix aids like Feng Shui, meditation and healing: a new line of business activity, which has sprouted dozens of spiritual gurus all over India. The film begins with India’s first fitness guru – Ramma Bans. Eighty years old, she continues to do one hour work out everyday. Ramma, a guru to Bollywood actress and Miss Indias, believes in bodism and wants every one to work towards making their bodies healthy and beautiful. Stress and anxiety are not just a problem for the rich but also for the working middle class. For them Nikhil Parikh a Mumbai based Feng Shui dealer gives free consultancy by using a concoction of mix and match tools like Feng Shui, Vastu, crystal therapy and pyramid healing. In the middle of this cacophony is 28 years old Parinita Nath who switched careers from a dancer to a scuba diver and finally to a healer. She runs her clinic in Mumbai where she treats people through cranio sacral healing. Parinita is a follower of Osho and conducts sacred dance classes in Osho Commune, Pune. Shot in Mumbai and Pune, Dharma Dollies explores the spirit of India’s urban youth specially women and follow them in their search. |
